20 Self-Care Acts Insead of Scrolling Social
With the election, COVID, and everyday life social media can be suffocating. I know it definitely has been toxic for me and my own mental health.
I created a quick list of alternatives to scrolling that you should try! I am not asking you to do a full on social detox, just to get off your phone for 5-10 minutes and try something different.
1) Call someone you love. A phone call may be exactly what you or someone else needs right now. Everyone texts these days (including myself), but I am working on actually having more phone calls. It’s been weird after years of pretty much no phone calls for me!
2) Have a bonfire.
3) Listen to a podcast.
4) Bring a trash bag on a walk and collect any trash that you may come across.
5) Read 1 chapter of a book.
6) Watch a feel good movie.
7) Pick a room (or area) and do a deep clean.
8) Go for a walk.
9) Watch a sunrise/sunset.
10) Unsubscribe from those annoying emails that are cluttering your inbox.
11) Take a bath.
I recently tried a bath tea from Modern Roots and it was almost better than a bath bomb. The chamomile, magnesium, and lavender make it an aromatic blend that really helps you to unwind. Click here to grab one for yourself!
12) Listen to music and/or make a music playlist.
13) Start a bullet journal for a fun way to organize your day or week.
14) Stargaze
15) Color or draw!
16) Visit the library. You can borrow books or movies, which you can then bring home and have a fun night in with friends and/or family. Some libraries even lend out state and national park passes, camping equipment, and more.
17) Decorate for the season!
18) Rearrange your furniture. This can make your house feels fresh and new.
19) Make a new recipe. Are you tired of cooking the same things all the time? Learning how to cook something outside of your comfort zone can be one of the best things to do without social media.
20) Go out for coffee.
By cutting back on social media, you will hopefully be able to use that extra time to build better relationships with those around you.
So many people simply sit on their phones while eating with friends and family, while out doing activities with others, and so on. Unfortunately, this may hurt your relationships with the people you care about. But with more time, you can improve the relationships you have with friends, family, and even strangers. By finding ways to take more social media breaks, you can finally regain your life and improve your relationships. Also, you never know if someone wants you to reach out to them.
XO,
